NYC Restaurant Week
It’s the time of year that many frugal foodies love: New York City Restaurant Week. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event, and many upscale restaurants in NYC are still offering prix fixes at a vastly discounted price. The name “restaurant week” is a misnomer because the time period is actually from July 16 to August 10, but the spirit is the same: Get a lunch for $24.07 or a dinner for $35 at a restaurant where that money usually would get you just the main course, not even an appetizer or a dessert to boot. Some restaurants offer lunch, dinner, or both, so be sure to check out the options ahead of time. Head over to the week’s website to check out the restaurants’ special menus, or go for some of these favorites:
Ai Fiori
Head here for a Franco-Italian lunch prepared by celebrity chef Michael White. Try his perfect homemade pasta and rich country pate.
Calle Ocho
This Upper West Side Latin American-inspired restaurant is full of flavor and includes some incredible desserts. Be sure to order one of the restaurant’s signature mojitos to complement your meal.
DBGB Kitchen and Bar
Enjoy the signature Yankee Burger at lunch or dinner at this Daniel Boulud spot, where burgers reign supreme year round. Finish off the meal with the dark rum and ginger beer sundae.
Maialino
One of Danny Meyer’s most celebrated new restaurants offers a Restaurant Week lunch. Enjoy the haute Gramercy Hotel location as you dine on rustic Italian fare, like tripe and Pecorino, fried cod and marinated potatoes, and spaghetti with clams.
Pranna
This trendy flatiron spot specializes in Indian and Southeast Asian food, so belly up for a dinner full of salmon tikka, green papaya salad, and mango tres leches cake. Be sure to dress to the nines because this is a crowd that dresses to impress!
