Foodies for a Cause: LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade Event

Photo Courtesy of Alex’s Lemonade Stand FoundationFood is great and all, and dining out is fun. But honestly, none of it really matters in comparison to something like cancer research or saving lives. That takes precedent 100 percent of the time. When I discovered Alex’s Lemonade Stand, I was beyond excited. This upcoming event combines foodies, comedians, and an amazing foundation that raises funds for finding a cure. Epic win!

On September 29, the third annual Los Angeles Loves Alex’s Lemonade event is taking place in Culver City. The host for this culinary event will be Chef Suzanne Goin (Hungry Cat, AOC, Lucques, and Tavern). Joining her will be dozens of well-known, reputable chefs and mixologists from across LA. As if that weren’t cool enough, the organizers have something else to sweeten the deal: Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, and Jimmy Kimmel will be co-hosting and entertaining.

Liz and Jay Scott started the foundation in honor of their late daughter, Alex. Alex was diagnosed with cancer before the age of one, and during her courageous eight years of life, she inspired her family and everyone around her. While in treatment, one of her requests was to have a “lemonade stand” to raise money for doctors to “help other kids.” To this day, Liz and Jay continue to celebrate her legacy with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the upcoming LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade event.

In addition to the many chefs and mixologists who will spread their foodie knowledge and love, there will also be a live auction. A later silent auction will happen as well, so get your checkbook ready.  To get more details about what will be up for bid or to inquire about donating something to auction, contact Addie Spector at Addie@AlexsLemonade.org

At the event, childhood cancer survivors will make inspirational speeches, and amazingly passionate folks will be there to give you details about the organization and how you can help.

Foodie events come along all the time in LA, but they are not often for such an honorable cause that you can feel good about! Go meet these awesome people, talk to some chefs, listen to some jokes, and have fun!

The when and where: Saturday, September 29, 2012 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Culver Studios, Culver City, CA 90232.
